Contractor Missing Link

Missing Link This will be a unique post because of the subject line I have chosen. But yes as always there is a madness to my thoughts. The contractor missing link means just what it says.

Let me ask you a question? Do you really believe that one person can enter your company or your life and make a big difference?

Well I’m here to say yes and if you don’t mind I would like to share my story with you. I believe you will find it interesting and I’m sure some of it will hit some hot buttons with you.

See, when you start in business you do all the hiring and you look for vendors that you find and you do everything to secure the right vendors for the right job. Now, none of us like being sold but I would say you will go with your gut feeling sometimes especially if it’s something that you are not good at.

So when it comes to hiring a webmaster to build your website for your contracting business most of us are outside looking in when it comes to this type of work experience. Right?

Sure we can all build a 10 story building but when it comes time to work on the office computer oops I’m a lost puppy.

So being the genius I thought I was we hired a season pro to handle all our computer needs. But, to be honest I have that gut feeling telling me to watch out for this company for what ever reason.

I try to settle myself down because I have the contractor missing link right? Not so fast big guy!

Let’s fast forward 14 months and you spent $12,000 in fees for the webmaster from hell and your sites are all doing squat. I mean nothing!

So, like all of us contractors do we keep giving another chance and another and another until now all your doing is tossing and turning all night long because first you what to kill yourself for being so stupid.

Then the next thing that comes to mind is you what to choke the living crap out of your so called web-disaster-master. But instead you decide to go shopping for someone else. Enough is enough!

Now, have you ever heard of someone finding you? Yes, there is a god and all the things were lined up in my life I guess because I have now found the greatest and nicest smartest webmaster.

Oh, one more thing  that I don’t understand I let get by me for 14 months. In our contracting business we normally do the work then get paid right? Sure we may get a small deposit but how rare would it be that someone pays all the money upfront? Hardly ever right?

So, then why did I let the contractor missing link web-disaster-master get me to pay in advance? Because I’m stupid-stupid I guess. That feels better!

Now, I have the dream webmaster queen that does the work and proves everything she has done and explains why she did this and that. Hello, would someone pitch me I believe I’m dreaming.

Guess what I have now? A website that brings me traffic and leads. Go figure!

So, yes let me say that 1 person can make a big difference in your life and your business. And yes I now have the contractor missing link.

Happy Computing!

Hey Glenn,
It is so strange that I accidently stumbled onto your site, and specifically to this posting of “Contractor Missing Link”. I feel like I could have written this story. I am in a similar situation. The way the “SEO” industry does business is so strange. Like you said, they mostly want to be paid up front – I get a small deposit, at best, then have to earn my way to the rest. When I have asked for proposals from SEO companies, they all send their standard “boiler plate, multiple choice, check the box and price you want” proposals; I really don’t think any of them have even looked at my site. Can you imagine walking into a customer’s home with plans already drawn for their room addition and it’s the first time you were in their house?!

Please send me your dream webmaster’s contact info. I know one person can definitely make a difference in my world.

Thanks,
Harry R. Artt
