Do You Have a Business or Job?

Do You Have a Contractor Business or a Job?

Yes, I know this topic will get some of you cranked up but hey, it’s an honest way of looking at you and your contracting business.

Now, lets take a look at your company. I like to think that you are working to build your business not only for a paycheck but to build value and wealth along the way.

Well, what is true wealth anyway? Some of you might say being able to pay all your bills on time, own your own building or shop and take a couple of weeks vacation when able.

But, others might say wealth means having all your bills paid on time plus have 6 months of operating expenses set aside and your buildings or shop paid for and all your trucks and equipment is all paid for. Plus you make over $150,000 a year and you have a vacation home paid for.

Wow, that is too different types of wealth, which would you rather have? Let me give it one more shot!

Wealth to me has several forms of life. I believe wealth is want truly makes you happy. See, if you have never been really money wealthy then most people can’t deal with it. Just think about how many lottery winners are back to broke within 2 years of winning there jackpot.

I also believe wealth is a mindset. You truly need to understand money and how it works. Some people have the Midas touch with money because they read and study money or they hire someone to coach them about money.

I think it all starts with your mindset also. Drive anywhere in America and you see the big house the fancy cars and you wonder why can’t I live like that.

Well ,to be honest you can but you chose not too.Again it’s the mindset you have that puts you where you are at right now.

I have a simple saying [change your mind change your life].

Some of you are happy to own your contracting business and may a paycheck every week. This is OK to believe me! I call it a comfort zone that works.

Because lets face it the bigger your company is or the more money you have, along comes more pressure and work.

I hope this post woke up the wealth inside you and if so share this post. Also sign up for my RSS feed.[Orange Button]

Glen,

I’m on a quest to turn my ‘job’ (working for myself) becomes a business. It’s amazing how little good info I’m finding about this in relation to our specific line of work. I used to be a Realtor and we had tons of training and information about how to grow your business. I’d love to hear more of your thoughts on this or any recommendations on reading material.

BTW- I’ve been blogging since January and it’s already paying off!
Thanks!

Hi Glen

Great advice especially for today. I think that so many contractors are so deflated with the current state of their business that it almost drains them on a daily basis. By shifting your mindset and setting specific goals for yourself you can and will change your life.
Unfortunately many however sit back and hope or wait for the magic to happen…things have changed with the contracting field as they have changed in many others. With out changing and adapting to the times there is a real risk of being left behind.
Keep up the great work!
