Let’s Take a Look at Contractor Supply Chain.
What ever happened to the good old days when you could walk into your supplier and see the owner behind the counter taking orders or even out helping load a truck or two?
Fast forward to today and now you are nothing but a number on a computer screen and everyone behind the screen taking the order has never even swung a hammer.
I guess what amazes me the most is to think that all the big buy outs that has happened in the last five years and now look at today and most are all bankrupt or soon will be.
I mean for all brains that go into this buying process you would think that they would have figured out the market for the long haul. I would bet money to say that when the single owner who owned the local supply company that he had some rainy day slush fund set aside for when we went though down turns like this.
So, where do all the so called “biggies” make there mistakes? Do they think that the building bubble would never burst?
You have to believe that they run projections out over at least 5 years wouldn’t you? In Florida the so called “biggies” had a field day buying up all kinds of contractor supply houses. But fast forward to today and all we have is a lot of empty buildings and lost employment.
The sad part was most of these supply companies were around our town for 20 years or more working with local contractors in the area.
So not only does it hurt the contractor but it kills our little town for revenue and all the local activities that they supported.
It makes it much harder to do business now because we now need to go outside our area to buy products and services and working though the delivery process.
Give me your thoughts on the supply chain and how you buy now.
