Are Contractors Expectations In Line With The Real World Today?
I have been talking to some “contractors” around the country on some forums and asking if they think that they are expecting to much from not only the market but from there employees or subcontractors?
I only ask this because lately it seems like there is a push from some contractor owners that don’t seem to be achievable.
Like unreasonable sales goals? Installation schedules that can’t be met? Long hours and ask to work on weekends?
Yes, I understand that contractors have been through the ringer with this economy but at what point do we get back to earth and sit down and make a plan that works for everyone?
Lets face it we do need to do things different because this economy has taught us a ton of lessons and we need to bring the lessons to your staff and all learn from it.
This will make for a better company and a stronger business moving forward.
But, making everybody a slave to your new work schedule is not the way to start out in this new so called economic recovery. I have always thought working from a plan is the best way to excite the troops and get them more involved.
Yes, part of being a great contractor is to be able to motivate the troops also and point them in a direction that meets all your expectations and every body’s goals as a group.
All of the contractors agree that I talked to plan a new direction for there companies and feel they have learned a lot from this past economy and what to make sure they have a solid plan to move with into the future.
Working with your team and building a solid plan is by far the best way to go because it gets everyone involved and builds confidence for everyone.
Most businesses will be glad when 2009 is over because we all have great plans for a new 2010.
