Sometimes contractors need to look back to move forward in this economy!
Yes, times are changing and we are all on unproven grounds here. But how do we keep driving forward when everyone keeps pulling me down?
Just like the stock market they have always had to look to the past to learn and understand the future.
So the old time contractors out there and yes, there are still some of you that can remember those bad times. But I believe that even in this time that they have never seen it this bad before?
Even I am a very positive person and I truly need to work on staying positive just because of the people and the world around me. Yes, it’s easy to get caught up in the times and the doom and gloom.
But remember the saying that only the strong will survive means more now then ever.
So hey let’s face it and say OK things may get worse before it gets better. Are you prepared to ride this bad boy out we call a recession?
Have you done the cut backs that needs to take place to weather this hurricane? It could be a cat 4 or 5 so are you really ready?
You will find by looking back when you started in the contracting business that you can do and live without, right? Well, yes because you have already done that!
So do not be afraid to do what’s needed to survive this economy hurricane. The main thing is to get into your head that you will at all cost make it threw this mess.
You will be better for it and it will have taught you a valuable lesson in life and in your business. Hey you may need to go down to you and one installer or subcontractor. But do what’s needed to take care of you and your family first.
No one will look down on you because the guy or family next to you is in the same boat with you and praying for a life line also.
Keep your head up high and keep plowing forward full steam ahead and you and I will make it threw these times.
Feel free to write me anytime if anyone needs someone to talk to or just needs some words of encouragement.
Happy Selling

I discussed this issue last night with a senior employee last night as we prepare to dismiss a newly hired employee even as we expand into a new market. If you are in the top 10 to 15 per cent of your trade/craft/profession, will even the most severe recession/depression destroy you? Probably not, because even if 50 per cent are unemployed, 50 per cent still have work — and if you are the very best at what you do (and you enjoy your career/business) you should be able to survive. Glen you are right however that you must do what you need to do and not bury your heads in the sand.
Yes we have had this discussion a lot lately also. Keeping everyone in a positive mode has been a challenge. Thanks for the comment Mark.
