Contractors starting out in 2009 need to have a marketing plan to be successful this year. Just forget about what the economy is doing right now because the contractors that are doing this have more work then they can handle.
Despite what you have been told or have tried in the past you must have a plan to survive. If you have not heard of a marketing circle let me explain it as easy as I can for you.
I like to think of my marketing circle as the same as a clock on the wall. I break it down into 4 simple time zones. From 1-3 is the same as January-March now pending on your season you are either looking for work or just trying to keep your name out there? If your snow bound and not working then doing some home shows are a must.
Working on your online marketing is a must also this time of year. If you are working then you must have your online marketing in full force and your goal needs to be receiving 50% of your leads from your online marketing.
You should also be doing some insert or postcard marketing to gain the other 50% of leads needed. You should continue to master or hire someone to receive the majority of your leads online. Online leads cost less and are usually a better quality lead.
From 3-6 is April- June and by now all contractors are in full swing and working hard to get all the leads they can get. Again your online marketing is the most important and lead cost are less. But you should be doing home shows or fairs and selling products or services that match up to this time of the season.
From 7-9 is now July -September and for most the fall season is around the corner and by now your online marketing is in high gear and you are up to 75% of leads from the net. You are tweaking your products and services again to meet the season and all your marketing is in full swing to gain all the work you can get to help carry you into the end of the year blues.
You should be working with your suppliers to receive all the discounts you can get so that you are able to pass the discounts to your clients.
Now it’s 10-12 or October – December and most of you have nothing but hunting on your mind. But you have that little voice in your head saying I need some more work to carry me and the guys to the new year. So do the right thing before you head out for that week in the woods and make that last marketing push with your online and inserts and postcards so when you get back you now have the leads to sell out the rest of the year.
This makes for a great Christmas and the start of the new year. The main thing is to put your marketing plan together and your budget and put it on auto pilot and do not touch it but just to tweak it here and there.
Happy Selling
