How can roofing contractors have a $43,000 spread on a job?
I just bid a mansard roofing job on 3 small 2 story condominiums in Marco Island project.
The lowest bidder was at $66,000 and the highest was $109,000 and we were $82,000. Needless to say we lost it to the low bidder.
Now think about this for a minute, from low to high there’s a $43,000 difference. I am use to bidding with other contractors in a different construction field and we are within $1,000 of each other.
So how in the hell can roofers be off by this much? I mean $43,000 is a lot of money and even between us and the lowest bidder we were $16,000 difference.
I must admit that I am new at the roofing game. But I know how to measure and I made sure that all the bids were very close on how many squares there were.
We even own our own lift and lets face it we were all bidding on the exact same product and manufacture. So I just don’t get the spread on this. Plus to be honest I’am little pissed over the whole deal.
The only thing that can change the prices is labor and your overhead.Right?
This was my first go around and I guess I wanted to bitch to someone and get it off my chest so thanks I do feel better now.
But come on all you roofing contractors get in the game with the pricing model everyone is using. I think some of you are in La-La land with your pricing.
