Goals?

by glen on January 26, 2010

Today is a big day. We call it “Countdown 100 days to the end of the year.” Everyone likes to make a big deal about it because if you created goals for the year then, hey, your year is almost up.

So I must ask: Have you met your goals yet for 2008? Contractors are not the best at goal setting. Yes, we always have good intentions but then we are so distracted. Hey, we have companies to run, along with job sites to be on.

This year I did something a little different and I must say I like it better. I built myself a vision board. It’s just a white board 2′x4′ that I picked up at office depot.

What I like about it most is that I can add pictures, cut out graphics and I can write all over it. I have it hung right above my desk. I see it all day long and for me it has worked better than just writing goals down and putting them in my desk somewhere.

I have pictures of an outdoor kitchen, a new screen cage for my home, new vinyl frame fence for my back yard, a coated driveway, plus my income for 2008, pictures of my cabin I want to purchase, pictures of our vacations we will go on this year and a ton of other things. Oh, and a couple of extreme things that make me really reach out.

Now of course I have business-related visions on there also, and as long as I am working hard and staying focused and looking at my vision board everyday I will achieve my visions.

Why is it so important to have a vision board or to set goals every year? Well for me it is like a blueprint drawn out for the year. You start here and if everything goes to the plan you end up here with the things on your vision board or the things you wrote down on your goal sheet.

Just like my marketing plans I set every 3 months, I like to tweak as we go to help get me to my goals for each month. That’s why you work for yourself, because you can make the calls to do this or that. Marketing is like a mine field and you can move it this way or move that way if something does not work.

So you have a 100 days left to 2009: Have you met your goals? Just remember it’s not to late to make those adjustments to make 2008 a banner year.

When you join contractorblab.com in October we will set you on a course to meet all your 2009 goals and I will let you see my crazy vision board and how many goals I met this year. So keep coming back because we will launch soon.

Happy Selling

Glen
