Dealing With Upset Employees

Contractors Need to Deal With Upset Employees Just Like They Would a Client!

Yes, I know you have enough to deal with already but there is always something more to deal with. If you have a larger contracting business and have several employees then you will have some problems from time to time.

When I here of a problem I like to deal with it as soon as possible. The longer you let it go the larger the problem gets. Plus it also can effect your whole operation the longer it goes.

Now, I like to think of this type of problem just like I would if dealing with a client. Set them down and get the facts. Then make your best decision after thinking things through.

I do believe in dealing with this type of matter very quickly but I also have learned [ the hard way] that it pays to think before you act. Because of the laws nowadays you need to cover your ass first.

My best advise I can give is to make sure you have an employee handbook. Yes, I also know it’s a pain to put one together but again because of today’s laws it covers you and helps guide you when you have an employee problem.

When you have an employee handbook and use it in front of the problem employee when you meet them it helps you and protects you and most of the time the employee clearly understands that you are just following the company rules and guidance set up in the handbook that they signed when they where hired.

You, as the owner are just following the rules. Plus if you need to let an employee go for some reason that you have identified that meets for termination then you feel comfortable because you have followed due process for your company and your handbook.

Yes, I remember when you could sit down and talk things out and then back to work as usual, but those days are gone.
